Listening Exercise to Learn English
Listening Exercise to Learn EnglishThe listening exercise is an important way to learn English. Before we go into the listening exercise, let's first look at how the skills of listening are learned and developed. We all have the ability to hear, but not everyone learns to use that skill effectively. What we do all the time is to assume we hear what someone says without really hearing it. For example, I may hear someone tell me that they love me when I am getting ready for bed. If I hear them say it, I know they mean it. However, if I hear them say it, I can easily have a false sense of hearing and presume that they are talking about something else. This is one example of how we all think we are hearing what we are not hearing.Another example of this is when we don't really hear what someone says. When we are driving down the highway, we may assume that we are seeing something when we are really just not. We are not even in the same room! This is also a great example of how we learn by hearing what we do.In addition to learning through hearing, there is another way we learn and develop listening skills. This is through observation. As we observe someone, we learn how they hear, how they will react to different sounds, and we learn from our observation of their reactions how we can best react to them. How can we learn to listen more effectively? With the listening exercise, the listener is engaged and does not get distracted by the words that are spoken. Instead, the listener is watching the words and is listening to them without having to focus on what is being said. By learning the role of the listener and his or her role in our listening, we learn to listen in a more effective way. There are some actions that you can take to improve your good listening skills. When learning, first, make sure you know the correct pronunciation of the words. After you know the proper pronunciation, make sure that you do not speak them as they are pronounced to make them sound bette r.It is a great idea to practice listening. Do this in front of a mirror and hold a piece of tape recorder in front of you so that you can hear yourself. When the words come out, pronounce them correctly. Try to repeat each word several times until you can tell the words apart, then make a recording of yourself in a mirror so that you can correct your mistakes.Ear training is one of the first things you should do. Do some research into ear training, the proper ear movements and techniques, and find out where you can get ear training DVDs and books. If you're serious about learning English and getting fluent, doing these three things will help you learn more efficiently and effectively.
